The Orissa Cultural Association (OCA) , Bangalore
is a platfor the people of Orissan link to come together and
devlop closer social and cultural interaction. The Association
aims to keep alive the rich heritage of Orissan culture in the
field of art, music, dance, literature, theatre and cinema among
Oriya's ( also the non-Oriya's based in Orissa) residing in
Bangalore and it accessible to others in the city. The
association aslo hopes to emerge as aforum for cultural exchange
between Karnataka and Orissa. It has been expanding its
activities over the years, involving itself with the welfare of
its members in various speheres.
OCA , Bangalore was born in the seventies through
the enthusiastics efforts of a handful of early founders. As more
members joined spontaneously, the Association and its activities
grew. Is was registered with Registrar of societies , Karnataka
in 1988.
The
main funtions organised by the OCA currentl are UTKAL DIBAS on April 1st, FOUNDATION DAY in the month of September
and in November . Conventionally a reputed from Orissa consisting
of Dancers deputed by the Government of Orissa, performs on UTKAL
DIBAS. The highlight of the FOUNDATION DAY is series of
competitions held for the children and audlts alike in the field
of sports, rangoli, quiz and singing . This is followed by a
sumptuous feast featuring traditional Oriya delicacies.
KUMAROTSAV is a variety show that presents the in-house talent of
OCA and consists of skits, songs,dances, and monoacts. Apart from
these , many other events such as felicitation to eminent
personalities and speeches by literary stalwarts are held from
time to time.
The Annual journal of the Association KALINGAPATRA,
features article, stories and poems by members in both Oriya and
English . A directory containing the addresses and other details
of members usually forms a part of KALINGAPATRA . A quarterly
news letter SANJOG is also published to facilitate exchange of
news, views and other tidbits among members on a containing basis.
OCA's 'Gopinath Library' is being started with the initial donations from
The Gopinath Memorial Trust. The library is having Oriya Books is
working at present from Shri Utkal Mohanty's residence at A-22, 5th
floor, 13th cross, Jayanti Apartment, Malleswaram, Bangalore-3.
Members may lend the library by prior intimation to Mr. Utkal

The future plans of the Association include
aquiring a plot of land and construction of our building. The
building can house facilities such as a stage for holding various
funtions, a room for meeting, a library, guest rooms, canteen and
places of worship.
the affairs of the Association is conduted by an
Executive Committee of minimum 10 office-beares elected by the
Annual General Body meeting. The committee consists of President,
Secretary, Treasurer, Vice president, Joint Secretary , 5 other
Members and a Student member . More members can be co-opted by
the committee at its discretion.

A 'Jagannatha Temple Trust' has been formed and
managed by some dynamic youngsters to build a Jaggannath Temple
in Bangalore. The required land for this purpose has already been
acquired. For more details...
Orissa is
situated in the south eastern part of India . The Bay of Bengal
washes its toes in the east. states like West Bengal, Bihar,
Mandhya Pradesh and Andhra are proud of getting such a state with
rich in cultural heritage and beauties as their neighbur. The
chief Lord of the state is Sri Sri Jagannath Jeu, Puri. The
culture of orissa is also called in the name of its lord as
Jagannath Sanskruti (Culture of Jagannath).
